BOB GLOBERMAN
11/6/16
I am saddened to share the news of the passing of one of our very special OHS teachers, Bob Globerman. Mr. Globerman has been on our Class of '65 mailing list for years and frequently emailed me to comment about our blog and our class. He really appreciated being included in all our news updates. Following his tenure at OHS, Bob became an Adjunct Professor of Art and Art History at Marymount College and later took on a new career as a travel guide and author. Although we will always remember him as a young man, Bob Globerman was 87 when he died. Our heartfelt condolences go out to Bob's family.

OBITUARYJOE RAUSCHKOLB
7/31/16
Most of us remember Joe Rauschkolb as the Assistant Principal during our time there. However, Joe Rauschkolb was also a dedicated member and former Captain of OVAC (Ossining Volunteer Ambulance Corps), a former Captain of Independent Hose Co., and a former Battalion Chief with the Murrells Inlet Garden City SC Fire Department. I personally remember getting to know Joe during my time in OVAC. He was a great man and will be remembered fondly by students, colleagues, friends, and all of us who were fortunate enough to know him. Condolences to the Rauschkolb family.

MR. GIBIAN
10/31/09
Need to report loss of one of our teachers. Mr. Leslie Gibian passed away last week. Mike Farrell called me. I remember his son, Gary, but not sure what Mr. Gibian taught.
- Mike Sellazzo
Leslie M. Gibian of Briarcliff Manor died October 17, 2009. He was 88 years old. Les is survived by his sons Gary, Glenn and Grant, by six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The family plans to have a service for Les during 2010... and will let his family and friends know the details once they are available.

Mr. Gibian taught Science. I had him for an experimental Physics course called "P.S.S.C (Physical Science Study Committee) Physics" - it was too cerebral for just about EVERYONE (including Mr. Gibian) in the class - except for Barry Kellman, that is. When Mr. Gibian got stumped by a Physics problem (often), Barry would take the chalk with a flourish and solve the equation or problem. In spite of that bizarre course, Mr. Gibian was a pleasant fellow - self depricating and funny in his own way. I knew Gary pretty well - a real nice guy.

Gary Gibian and I used to hang out at Briarcliff pool together, and, at least once, his father joined us. We had a scientific conversation about cold water being cleaner than warm. I never had Mr. Gibian for a teacher. If I had, I would probably have a better developed cerebellum. I remember Mr. Gibian as gentle and kind.

MR. UDELL

There is an Obit in the paper today for Clifford S. Udell who was a teacher at OHS for 29 years. I remember him well but never had him as a teacher. He passed away in his sleep on July 26th, 2009. Just wanted to pass it along. If you are interested in the details it's in the Journal News today.

I am so sad that so many classmates are no longer with us- way too early for all of them! I am also very sad about Cliff Udell whom I had as a teacher and worked with in the Science Department for many years. He was a great teacher and terrific man! Life is soo short and sometimes so sad!

ReplyDeleteHello All, I doubt this website is still active, but I am desperate for answers. I guess I should start by introducing myself, Hi, my name's Helena, and I am Leslie Gibian's granddaughter. To keep a long story short, my mother and my father, Grant, never married but had a serious relationship, resulting in my brother and I being born. I do not get along well with my father, for personal reasons, but for some reason, he will not tell me about his father, Leslie, or his mother, Eve DeMartin. It had always seem like he had tried to hide something from me, which I really do not like as I am his only daughter. So, I know this may sound stupid and ignorant, I have been searching documents online since 2013 to try to get answers about my family. So if any of you know anything of Mr. Gibian I would be pleased to know. Please respond to this comment if you remember anything of Leslie, or his wife.
ReplyDeleteRegards,
Helena
